The Will of Thomas LEAVES (????-1654) of Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, yeoman, in which he refers to 4 acres of pasture in the tenure of George BROWNE bought from John EDGOOSE:

"In the name of God Amen
June the thirteenth 1654 I Thomas LEAVES of Pinchbeck in the Countie of Lincoln yeoman being sicke of bodie but of good and perfect Memorie thanks be unto God Doe make and ordeine this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following First I give and bequeathe my Sowle and Spiritt into the Hands of Almighty God whoe gave it hoping to be saved by the Death and Merrits of Jesus Christ my onlie Saviour and Redeemer And my bodie to be buried in the Parish Church of Pinchbecke And all my worldlie Goods as followeth
Item I give unto the poore of Pinchbecke twenty pounds to be putt forth for the best use for them And the use to be given to them yearlie everie twentie first Day of December soe long as the World shall endure And I make and ordeine my Cozen John LEAVES and Mr. Robert BISSELL feoffico in trust for it
Item I give unto Robert ELDRED his three Children which he hath by Jane his wife the Sum(m)e of twentie pounds apeece to be put forth for them by John LEAVES within eight Weekes after my decease untill such time as they shall accomplish theire severall Ages of one and twentie yeares
Item I give unto Jane the wife of Robert ELDRED twenty pounds
Item I give unto the Daughters of Richard LEAVES my Cozen late of Langham in Essex tenne pounds apeece to be put forth by John LEAVES to the best use within eight weekes after my decease
Item I give unto Anne the Daughter of Henry Leves [sic] my brother fortie shillings a yeare during her naturall life to be paid by my Executor
Item I give unto Jane MAKERNES of Spalding widdowe my Cozen eight pounds a yeare during her naturall life to be paid by Thomas LEAVES sonne of Richard LEAVES my Cozen and for want of such yearly payment shee the aforesaid Jane shall have power to enter to enter and distreine in and upon one Cottage and three Acres of Land and Pasture now in the tenure and Occupac(i)on of Edward JACKSON of Pinchbecke
Item I give unto Thomas LEAVES my Cozen and the heires Male of his bodie the aforesaid Cottages w(i)th three Acres of Land and Pasture in the Tenure of Edward JACKSON as aforesaid
Item I give unto Robert LEAVES sonne of Richard LEAVES my Cozen and the heires Male of his Bodie my two Cottages and foure Acres of Land and pasture lying and being in Whaplode Drove
Item my will further is that if Thomas LEAVES and Robert LEAVES or either of them shall depart theire naturall Lives without Issue Male of theire Bodies lawfullie begotten Then the aforesaid Cottages and Lands and Pasture to them given shall remaine and be unto the heires male of John LEAVES my Cozen forever
Item I give unto my Cozen John LEAVES one Messuage w(i)th three Acres of Land and Pasture be it more or lesse now in the Tenure of George BROWNE
Item I give unto my Cozen John LEAVES four Acres of Pasture that I purchased of John EDGOOSE now in the tenure of George BROWNE aforesaid And my will is that my Cozen John LEAVES shall have the Messuage and three Acres of Land and Pasture and the foure Acres of Pasture afores(ai)d to him the s(ai)d John LEAVES and his heires for ever
Item I give unto Margaret the wife of John LEAVES tenne pounds
Item I give unto John AYRE ten(an)t one fustion doublett and one Coate
Item I give unto Edward JACKSON one reddish chamlet suite
Item I give unto George BROWNE one clothe Suite and a paire of Worsted Stockinge
Item I give unto the poore of Pinchbecke three pounds to be distributed at my buriall
Item I give unto Mr. Robert BISSELL one gold Ring
Item My will is that if I Cannot get a ten(an)t to surrender twoe Acres of Coppiehold Lands at Whaplode Drove w(i)th the Cottage Then my will is that my Cozen Jane MAKERNES shall make a good Estate to Robert LEAVES my Cozen of the aforesaid Cottage and twoe Acres of Coppiehold Land according to this my will which if she refuse to doe my will is that Robert LEAVES my Cozen shall have the eight pounds ayeare given to her the s(ai)d Jane & shee to have no benefitt by any Guift in this my will
Item my will is that my ten(an)ts be not put away nor have theire Rents raised payeing theire Rents and useing the Ground and houses as they ought to doe
All the Rest of [end of page 1] my Goods not given granted nor bequeathed I give the wholly unto John LEAVES my Cozen whome I make and ordeine Executor of this my last will and Testament he seeing my Debts paid if any be my Legacies discharged and my bodie decentlie brought to the Ground and to receave my Debts
Item I give Thomas BLADESMITH five shillings to buy him Gloves
In Witnesse whereof I have here unto sett my hand and Seale the Day and yeare aforesaid Thomas LEAVES his marke.
