NOTE:
The following poem was amongst papers given to Michael James EDGOOSE by his aunt Edith Naomi EDGOOSE:
From the Eastern Daily Press, 13 February 1900:
"KHAKI
Khaki is the colour everyone should wear,
Now our gallant Tommies fight the Treansvaal bear.
Khaki-coloured costumes are the latest fad,
Paid for by a gen'rous and khaki-living dad.
The absent-minded beggars in khaki are arrayed,
No longer in bright scarlet and shining snow-white braid.
Khaki hats and bonnets, khaki gloves and hose,
And e'enthe dainty dandy wears a budding khaki rose;
He wears a khaki necktie, handkerchief and stud,
But Norwich beats the record, with its khaki-coloured mud!"
Norwich Beatrice Goldsmith Jones
A letter from Aunt Bee to Michael James EDGOOSE dated 4 January 1968:
"Ormonde House, St. John's Hill, Shrewsbury. Tel. 3787
Dear Michael,
Many thanks for your letter. I was quite surprised to hear from you. No. I had not heard that you were collecting facts about family history.
I am afraid I cannot produce any letters or photographs at present. If I do come across any I will let you know.
I am cousin to your grandfather. My mother and his were sisters. They were born and brought up in Acle, Norfolk. They were the daughters of Mr Richard Leeder of Acle. I am not sure if it is Leeder or Leader.
I always thought you had relatives on the Edgoose side in or near Wisbech and Kings Lynn. Quite 60 years ago when your grandma Ju and I were walking from the [illegible] Church, on Sunday after Matins, we were photographed as we stood watching the soldiers parade down the Avenue. we both came out very prominently and were seen in a post card which was on sale.
I am afraid I cannot help you any further.
I am sorry you had bad health at Christmas. We had a quiet happy time. Thank you for your card. On it I saw a new name Jeremy. May I congratulate you on having a son. With best wishes for the New year to you and June and Jeremy.
Yours sincerely,
Bee."
