JOHN CROFT or CRAFT 1810 or 1811-1893
No proof has been seen that he was born or baptised at Old Bolingbroke in 1811 or 1812. There is no reference to him on LFHS's Bolingbroke Deanery CD of Baptisms & Burials 1754-1812.
Elizabeth EDGOOSE and John CRAFT were married by banns at Algarkirk parish church on 6 August 1835. Both she and John CRAFT were single and lived at Algarkirk. Witnesses were William TAYLOR and Richard HANSON.

Elizabeth's 70 year old aunt, Alice EDGOOSE, lived next door with Mathew and Mary TEBB.
In her will made on 11 April 1842 Alice EDGOOSE of Algarkirk, who was baptised at Kirkby-on-Bain on 14 July 1776, refers to her niece Elizabeth, the wife of John CROFT (sic).

Algarkirk Land Tax records for 1855 list a John EDGOOSE as an owner and occupier of a house and land, rent £3, tax 2s. 7d.. John CRAFT was the owner occupier of a house and land, rent £12. 2s. 6d., tax 10s. 7d..

At the time of the 1891 census John and Elizabeth CRAFT were at Amber Hill. John CRAFT was a 79 year old farmer born at Bolingbroke in Lincolnshire and his wife Elizabeth was 76 and born at Algarkirk. Also present was their 22 year old grandson James A. CRAFT, an agricultural labourer born at Bramley in Yorkshire, and their 24 year old granddaughter Jane CRAFT born at Algarkirk. Jane is probably synonymous with Emma Jane.

John CRAFT, a farmer aged 82, died at Amber Hill, Lincolnshire, on 1 September 1893. The informant was his granddaughter Emma Jane CRAFT of Amber Hill who was present at the death.

According to the NBI a John CROFT (sic) was buried at Algarkirk on 4 September 1893 aged 82.

It is unclear whether he is related to the Sutterton CRAFTS.
According to Averil Stephens and normadiane@aol.com a William CRAFT or CRAFTS, born circa 1786, married a Sarah .......... before 1817. She was buried on 11 July 1826 aged 40. William CRAFTS, widower, married Sarah ALLBONES at Sutterton, Lincolnshire, on 28 September 1828. He was born at Thornhaugh in Northamptonshire, as was his brother Richard in 1785. Averill wrote that some of their children were born in Algarkirk and some in Sutterton. Norma wrote that William CRAFTS born 1786 was her 3 x great grandfather.
A William CRAFTS married Sarah WALKER at Coningsby in 1810.
A William CRAFT was buried at Sutterton on 15 June 1856.

In an undated letter (probably circa 2003) Mrs. Averil STEPHENS asked where the name CRAFT originated. Her husband's old aunt used to say that they came from the Friesian Islands to help build the dykes and that the original name was CRAFS or KRAFS.
