Frank Herbert (known as Herbert), son of James and Daisy EDGOOSE of Swinton Cottages, Gosberton, Lincolnshire, was born on 30 December 1923 and baptised at Gosberton on on 30 August 1925. His father was described as a blacksmith.

A soldier aged 21, he married 18 year Edith Barbara ASHBY, daughter of joiner Christopher ASHBY, by licence, on 15 September 1945 at St. Saviour's, Retford, Nottinghamshire. At the time of their marriage they were living together at 44 Trent Street, East Retford, Nottingham. Witnesses were Phyllis Mabel EDGOOSE and Christopher ASHBY.
Their son [LIVING] was born at Gosberton in Lincolnshire in 1950.
