NOTES & QUERIES:
In an e-mail dated 5 July 2006 Karen Louise SHEARING claimed that Harold HUBBARD hit the national headlines on several occasions in World War 2 with his escapades.
In an e-mail dated 9 July 2006 Karen describes him as a bit of a character. Her mother remembered that he was decorated or received a citation twice in the war (she couldn't remember which).
He served on HMS Hood. He should have been on board when the ship was torpedoed but his train was late and it sailed without him.
He stole the Osprey mascot from Devonport Barracks, making the national headlines once again.
Karen claimed that whenever he went into a Lyons tea shop one could never be sure how much cutlery he would come out with.
Once ship's postman, he was demoted for theft.
