H. Roland BATE, born in 1895, son of Julia PRETTY and grandson of Mary Ann PRETTY, wrote his autobiography in 1974. In it, he referred to his Aunt Lizzie (Naomi Elizabeth LEETE née PRETTY) as follows:
"My mother was the youngest of three children born to my grandmother. She was born in Leicester on 15 October 1865 and christened Julia. Her sister known to me as Aunt Lizzie had two sons, Leonard and Harry (LEETE). From the time that I was of age to be aware of my surroundings and family, she had no husband, whom I supposed was dead and so far as I know that is the truth. She kept a hardware shop and my grandmother lived with her."

According to Michael Leete of the Emerald Genealogical Group in Australia Tempest LEETE is thought to have deserted his wife and children sometime after the birth of his third son in 1882. He is thought to have gone to London and lived under a false name. About the year 1930, Naomi was discovered by one of the sons, holding a letter and crying. Apparently the letter said that Tempest had died.
The death of Naomi E. LEETE aged 83 was registered in 1940.
