"MR. EDGOOSE RETIRES AFTER 45 YEARS TEACHING
LAST FRIDAY night Bangholme residents paid a well deserved tribute of love and esteemto Mr. EDGOOSE, head teacher of the Bangholme school for many years on the occasion of his retirement from the Education Department.
It is interesting to note that Mr. EDGOOSE, who lives in Sleeth Ave., Dandenong, and is a keen and valued member of the Dandenong Bowling Club, comes from a "teaching" family.
He himself served the Education Department faithfully for 45 years as a teacher. His father, Mr. J. J. EDGOOSE, was the first teacher in the Edgucation Department, and his own son, Mr. Vernon EDGOOSE, is at present headmaster of the Neerim. Just to top it off, his sister, Miss A. B. EDGOOSE, also made teaching her profession.
Mr. EDGOOSE has resided in Dandenong for 16 years now, and up until March 15th last, he has been teaching at Bangholme. The goodwill and esteem which he has earned in that time was shown last Friday night when the parents, children, and frsat district tendered him a testimonial evening in the local hall. The hall was filled to overflowing, old scholars from Diggers Rest, and other districts where Mr. EDGOOSE had taught, making the trip especially for the occasion to honour him.
His pupils united to present a most enjoyable concert programme, and there were quite a number of informal speeches expressing the esteem in which the guest of honor is held. All praised his popularity with the children, his infinite patiedo paid him the compliment that in the entire sixteen years as headmaster the school committee had not had one complaint. as chairman of the school committee, Mr. EDWARDS wished Mr. EDGOOSE good health and happiness in his retirement, his sentiments being warmly echoed by Mr. McDERMOTT.
Mr. Ingles PILLAR handed Mr. EDGOOSE a wallet of notes with everyone's good wishes. Mrs. EDGOOSE received a lovely floral bouquet of carnations and fragrant violets.
During Mr. EDGOOSE's time at Bangholme, the school won the A. N. A. prize for the most improved ground in Metropolitan Area No. 7."
