Notes
WALTER ERNEST PINKNEY 1870-
The birth of a Walter Ernest PINKNEY was registered in 1870.
(December Q 1870 Farnborough 2a 70)
This is inconsistent with a Walter PINKNEY aged 3(sic) in the 1871 census below. According to the family bible Walter Ernest PINKNEY was born on 1 October 1870.
The 1871 census of Malthouse Lane, Aldershot:
James PINKNEY, head, aged 38, carman SWR company, born at Blythburgh, Suffolk;
Ann PINKNEY, wife, aged 27, born at Ash, Surrey;
Isabella PINKNEY, daughter, aged 11, born at Tongham, Surrey;
*Walter PINKNEY, son, aged 3, born at Cove, Hampshire;
Emelia PINKNEY, daughter, aged 6 months, born at Aldershot, Hampshire
(RG10/817/27/49)
It would seem that the ages of Walter and Emilia have been reversed: Amelia Mary was born on 13 February 1868 and would have been three years old on 2 April 1871. Walter Ernest was born on 1 October 1870 and would have been six months old at the time of the census.
The 1881 census of No. 1 Simmonds Cottage, Aldershot, Hampshire:
James PINKNEY, head, aged 48, miller, born at Blythburgh, Suffolk;
Ann PINKNEY, wife, aged 37, born at Tongham, Surrey;
*Walter E. PINKNEY, son, aged 10, scholar, born at Aldershot;
John N. PINKNEY, son, aged 5, scholar, born at Farnham;
Amy E. PINKNEY, daughter, aged 4, scholar, born at Aldershot;
Jesse (sic) L. PINKNEY, daughter, aged 1, born at Aldershot;
Emma ATHER, visitor, aged 37, single, cook, domestic servant, born at Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
(RG11/0782/71/15)
The 1891 census of Lower Street, Haslemere, Surrey:

The 1901 census of the Lodging House, Lower Street, Haslemere, Surrey:
*Walter E. PINKNEY, head, aged 30, married, landlord of lodging house, born at Aldershot, Hampshire;
