EDGOOSE, Elizabeth née HEATH (1865-1954), wife of Arthur EDGOOSE (1865-1902)
Elizabeth HEATH was born at 34 Church Street, Poplar, Middlesex, England on 3 October 1865, the daughter of Edward HEATH and Elizabeth formerly FLYNN. Edward HEATH was described as a brass turner of the same address.

She had an illegitimate daughter Emily at the Union Workhouse, Poplar, on 15 August 1883. She was described as a factory worker of 11 Tooke Street, Poplar.
The birth certificate of her daughter Elizabeth has not been traced. She died at the age of 6 at Florence Terrace, Alpha Road, Poplar, on 5 June 1892 (i.e. born 1885 or 1886 before marriage to Arthur EDGOOSE).
She married Arthur EDGOOSE at St. James The Great, Middlesex, on 21 March 1887 at the age of 22. Witnesses were John ANDREW and Edward HEATH. Her father Edward HEATH was described as a tankmaker. Arthur and Elizabeth were living at Bethnall Green.

As to the Removal of Elizabeth EDGOOSE and her three children
To the Guardians of the Poor of the Poplar Poor Law Union,
In the County of London
I, the undersigned, being the Clerk to the Guardians of West Ham Poor Law Union, in the County of Essex, Do hereby give Notice, that the above-named Pauper Elizabeth EDGOOSE aged 38 years, now residing at 11 Ship Street Canning Town, in the Parish of West Ham, which is comprised in the West Ham Poor Law Union, in the County of Essex, has with her three children viz: Hilda aged 9 years, Arthur James aged 5 years, and Frederick aged 3 years become and now is actually chargeable to, and is receiving relief from, the said West Ham Poor Law Union, and that an order under the hands and Seals of two of His Majesty's Justices of the Peace, acting together in and for the said County, has been obtained for their Removal to your said Union as the place of their last legal Settlement (a copy of which Order is herewith sent).
And I do also give you Notice that the following are the grounds of the said Removal including the Particulars of the Settlement relied upon by us in support thereof.
For that the said Paupers who have come to inhabit, and are now inhabiting in the said West Ham Poor Law Union; not having gained a legal settlement here, nor produced a Certificate acknowledging a Settlement elsewhere nor become irremoveable by residence; are now actually chargeable to, and receiving relief from, the said Union.
That the said Elizabeth EDGOOSE is the widow of Arthur EDGOOSE
That prior to 1898 the said Arthur EDGOOSE resided for the term of three years at 8 Tobago Street, 56 Manilla Street, Whites Cottages & 19 Malabar St. in the Parish, Hamlet or Township of All Saints Poplar in the Poplar Union, in such manner, and under such circumstances, in each of such years, as would in accordance of the several statutes in that behalf, render him irremovable therefrom and settled therein.
And you are further required to take Notice, that unless application be made for a copy of the Depositions upon which such Order has been granted, or unless Notice of Appeal against the said Order be received by us, within twenty-one days from the sending hereof, the said Pauper will be removed to your said Union in pursuance of the said Order and no appeal against such Order will afterwards be allowed.

Whether or not the Removal Order was implemented Elizabeth was living at Canning Town in the Borough of West Ham with two of her children at the time of the 1911 census. See below.
The records of St. George, Doncaster, Yorkshire, show that Hilda, daughter of Arthur EDGOOSE, labourer and Elizabeth EDGOOSE, was baptised there on 28 October 1903. Her address was given as the Bennett Denison Home, French Gate, West Riding of Yorkshire. There is a note in the register that she was born on 27 September 1893.
