      NOTES & QUERIES:
George SPAFFORD's ancestry was provided by Mrs. Sue DAVIS, formerly a fellow member of the Guild of One-Name Studies, and Ben MORANDI. A source of further information might be Bill@Spafford.us.

TRANSCRIPTION OF THE MATERIAL PART OF MRS. SUE DAVIS's LETTER DATED OCTOBER 1996
"Many thanks for your letter. Firstly many thanks for suplying me with Clarissa SPAFFORD's maiden name. I had got 1816 as her D.O.B., but this was from Cousins information etc.. where people were often forgetful or economical with the.avid that, I have quickly re-checked the 1851 Census; the family were at Marston, Lincs. when George gave his age as 27 & Clarissa as 29! Louisa, who is the only off-spring I know of, was 5 months old (born Marston 1850). I have a note of a Louisa SPAFFORD who married in 1878 in Bradford, but have no proof of it being the same one.
George SPAFFORD b. 1823 in Beckingham (LINCS. not Notts) & died Lincoln 1879. He was the son of Thomas SPAFFORD (b. Beckingham, Lincs 1801) & Mary (Nee ANDERTON) who married in 1821. They also had William (b. 1822) married Ann (SWAIN)s (ougham) married ?Mary? 1853, Newark. Eliza (b.1837 at Marston) & John (b 1840 at Marston)
Thomas (1801) was the son of William & Elizabeth (nee ANDREW) married in Stragglethorpe 1800. William was born in 1779 In Beckingham, the son of William (d.o.b. unknown) & Elizabeth WADESON (who died in 1822) who married in Beckingham in 1778.
The only other information I have on Clarissa is from the 1881 Census. She is a Widow Tailoras (their spelling!), Living in St. Margaret's, Lincoln, aged 65, and born in Gosberton Cheal Lincs. The enumerator spells her name CLIRISA & obe spelling!
I am afraid I have no date of death for her, but I do have a death in my St. Catherine's House deaths, between approx 1899-1910, so this might be an area to search."
