      Jonathan, son of George and Alice PILKINTON (sic), was baptised at Stamford St. George, Lincolnshire, on 1 November 1779.

      Jonathan PILKINTON, single, aged 33, not of this parish, and Elizabeth GRUMMITT, single, aged 30, from Deeping, were married at Deeping St. James, Lincolnshire, on 28 October 1813.

      In 1828-1829 Jonathan and William PILKINTON had a business in Market Place, Market Deeping, Lincolnshire. They were grocers, drapers and tallow chandlers. In 1842 the business appeared to belong to Thomas and Elizabeth PILKINTON, and it is possible that a William TOLLER may have obtained an interest by about 1843 when Elizabeth PILKINTON became Elizabeth TOLLER.

      Jonathan PILKINTON of Market Deeping, Lincolnshire, Gentleman, made a will dated 26 April 1844 According to his will he died on 6 December 1844. In his will he refers to a silver snuff box presented to him by George William BANKS.

      The Will of Jonathan MILLER of Market Deeping, Gentleman [surnames capitalised]:
      "Jonathan PLIKINTON of Market Deeping in the County of Lincoln Gentleman
      First I direct all my just debts funeral and Testamentary expenses to be paid by my Executors hereinafter named out of my Personal estate
      And I give and devise All and singular my Freehold and Copyhold Messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever situate with their rights members and appurtenances Unto and to the Use of my dear Wife Elizabeth and her assigns for and during the term of her life she and they keeping the building thereon in good and sufficient tenantable repair
      And from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife I Give and devise All and singular my said freehold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever Unto and to the Use of my Nephews Thomas PILKINTON of Stamford in the said County of Lincoln Baker George PILKINTN of Birminghamin the County of Warwick Factor and my Friend Maurice Peter MOORE of New Sleaford in the said County of Lincoln Gentleman their heirs and assigns Upon Trust nevertheless that thhey the said Thomas PILKINTON George PILKINTON and Maurice Peter MOORE or the survivor or survivors of them or the heirs executors admiistrators or assigns of such survivor or other the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of this my Will shalhalall and do with all convenient speed after the decease of my said Wife absolutely sell and dispose of my said freehold hereditaments either together or in parcels and either by Public Auction or Private Contract (with liberty from time to time t to buy in any part thereof at any Auction and to rescind or vary the terms of any Contract for sale that may have been entered into) and shall and do make and execute such Conveyances and assurances of the hereditaments which shall be so sold as shall be requisite or proper for carrying into effect such sales and dispositions respectively
      And I further direct and declare that from and immediately after the decease of my said Wife it shall be lawful and I hereby authorize and empower the said Thomas PILKINTON George PILKINTON and Maurice Peter MOORE or the survivors or survivor of them or the heirs executors administrators or assigns of such survivor or other the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of this my Will to make sale and absolutely dispose of All and singular my Copyhold Messuages lands tenements and hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever with the appurtenances and inheritance in fee simple thereof in such and the like manner as is hereinbefore directed with respect to my said freehold hereditaments
      And I further direct and declare that the receipts of the Trustees or Trustee for the time being of this my Will for the purchase monies to be received by them or him by virtue of the trusts and powers respectively hereinbefore contained shall be valid and effectual discharges to the persons paying the same monies And that such persons respectively or any of them shall not be answerable or accountable for the application of the same monies or any part thereof
      And I do hereby declare that my saidTrustees shall stand possessed of the monies to be produced by such sale or sales as aforesaid after deducting the expenses attending the same upon the trusts hereinafter expressed
      And I Give and bequeath unto my my said Wife Elizabeth All the household Goods and furniture plate linen china glass printed books trinkets jewels wines liquors and housekeeping provisions which shall be in and about my dwellinghouse at the time of my decease
      I also give unto my said Wife the sum of One hundred pounds to supply her immediate occasions to be paid to her within fourteen days next after my decease
      Also I Give andbequeath the Silver Snuff Box presented to me by George William BANKS unto John Kitchen MILLER of Market Deeping aforesaid Gentleman as a token of my friendship and esteem
      Also I Give and bequeath unto Joseph PHILLIPS of Bourn Fen in the said County of Lincoln Farmer the sum of One hundred pounds also to the said Maurice Peter MOORE the legacy or sum of One hundred pounds such legacies to be clear of legacy duty
      Also I Give and bequeath unto the Minister Churchwardens and Overseers of the Poor of the Parish of Market Deeping aforesaid for the time being the sum of One hundred pounds clear of legacy duty Upon Trust to invest the same on such security aststo [sic] them shall seem most advisable and to receive and apply and distribute the interest or divdends arising therefrom yearly and every year on New year's day to and amongst such Poor Widows of and belonging to and residng in the said Parish as the said Minister Churchwardens and Overseers or the major part of them for the time being shall from time to time deem fit and proper objects to be recipient thereof
      And I Give and bequeath unto the said Thomas PILKINTON George PILKINTON and Maurice Peter MOORE their executors administrators and assigns All my money securities for money goods chattels credits and personal estate and effects whatsoever not heereinbefore specifically bequeathed Upon Trust to sell and dispose of collect get in and convert into money so much and such parts of the same residuary personal estate as shall not consist of money And do and shall stand possessed of the monies to arise and be produced from my residuary personal estate as aforesaid or of which the same may happen to be composed at the time of my decease Upon Trust by and out of the same to pay all my just debts funeral probate and testamentary chargeges & expenses and the several legacies hereinbefore and hereinafter bequeathed together with the legacy duty payable in respect of the same legacies and every of them and the distributive shares of residue hereinafter bequeathed and also all ththe fines and fees payable in respect of the admission of my said Wife to all and every my Copyhold estates hereinbefore devised to her for her life And Upon further Trust to lay out and invest the surplus of the same money in the name or names of my said Trustees or Trustee in or upon the Public Stocks or Funds or Government Securities or upon Mortgage of Freehold or Copyhold Estates in England or Wales
      And I hereby direct or declare that the trustees or trustee for the time being of this my Will shall stand possessed of the Stocks funds or securities in or upon which the aforesaid trust monies shall be invested Upon Trust from time to time t t to pay the interest dividends and annual produce thereof unto my said Wife Elizabeth or permit or empower her to receive the same during the term of her life And from and immediately after her decease Then as to and concerning as well the said Stocks funds and securities and the dividends interest and annual produce thenceforth to arise therefrom as also the of the clear residue of the monies to arise from the sale of my aforesaid Freehold and Copyhold estates under the trusts hereieinbefore contained Upon Trust to pay and divide the same unt and equally amongst all and every the children of my Brothers and Sisters William PILKINTON Thomas PILKINTON deceased Robert PILKINTON Sarah COOPER deceased Mary HINCHLIFF deceased anand Charlotte LOVELL deceased and the Children of my Wife's half Sister Jane ONN deceased who shall be living at the time of my decease and the issue then living of any of the said Children who may have died in my liftime [sic] such issue to takke only the share or respective share which his her or their parent or respective parents if living would have been entitled to And in case any such children or their issue shall be under the age of twenty one years or unmarried as aforesaid at the time of the decease of my said Wife then I direct my said trustees for the time being to invest the expectant or presumptive share or respective shares of such children or their issue respectively at Interest
      And I empower and direct my said Trustees for the time being (in their absolute discretion and as they shall see fit) to apply the interest dividends and annual produce arising from the respective shares or expectant shares or the whole or any part of the principal of such respective shares or expectant shares to which any such Children or their issue respectively shall be actually or presumptively intitled under the trusts aforesaid to and for the maintenance and education or advancemement in the world of such children respectivelyor their issue respectively or inthe discretion of the said Trustees to pay the same or such part thereof as they shall deem adequate for the purpose to the surviving parent or other the Guardian of such children children or their issue respectively to be so applied during their respective minorities
      And I direct that my trustees shall not be resp[onsible for the due application of any monies which they shall so as aforesaid pay to the surviving parent or guardian of any of the aforesaid children or their issue nor shall be bound to enquire into the ability of the parents of such Children and issue as aforesaid to provide for his or her maintenance education or advancement in the World
      And I hereby nominate and appoint my said Nephew Thomas PILKINTON and George PILKINTON and the said Maurice Peter MOORE Executors of this my Will
      And I Give devise unto the said Executors and their heirs All the land and hereditaments vested in me as Trustee or mortgagee To hold the same unto and To the Use of them the said Executors their assigns Upon and subject to the several trusts and equities for the time being affecting the same hereditaments respectively
      And I declare that when and so often as any cacancy shall occur in the Office of Trustee under this my Will by reason of the death (whether in my lifetime or after my decease) ['renominate' crossed out] renunciation incapacity or resignation o o or refusal to act of any Trustee for the time being it shall be lawful for the surviving or continuing Trustee or Trustees for the time being or if there be no such Trustee then for the executors or administrators of the last deceased Trustee or if there be no such last mentioned person then for the renouncing or retiring Trustee or Trustees to nominate a new Trustee or Trustees to supply such vacancy or vacancies respectively
      And I hereby declare that my said Executors and trustees for the time being shall not be answerable for each other or for involuntary losses And that they shall be allowed and may retain all their cash and expenses to be incurred in the due execution of the trusts hereby in them reposed And that every person paying money to such executors and Trustees shall be exonerated from all responsibilitY in respect of the application thereof
      In witness whereof I have hereunto and to the three preceding sheets of this my Will subscribed my name the twenty sixth day of April One thousand eight hundred and forty four

      My Will bearing even date hereunder
      I give andbequeath unto my two Trustees and Executors Thomas PILKINTON, and George PILKINTON, the legacy or sum of One Hundred Pounds each, free of Legacy duty, in addition to the bequests in their favor [sic] contained in My Will.
      And in all respects I ratify and Confirm my Will.
      In Witness whereof I the said Jnathan PILKINTON have hereunto set my hand this twenty sixth day of April One thousand eight Hundred and Forty Four

      On the 8th. day of January 1845 appeared personally before me Maurice Peter MOORE one of the Executors of the Within Written last Will and testament of Jonathan PILKINTON, And on the 17th day of December 1844 also appeared personally before Me Thomas PILKINTON and George PILKINTON, the other two Executors, and being respectively sworn, serverally made oath that the Whole of the Personal estate and effects of the Testator at the time of his decease without deducting any thing on accountof debts, did not amount in value to the sum of Five Thousand Pounds
