His mother died on 31 December 1942 at 90 Corporation Road, Grimsby, at the age of 73 and was buried in Scartho Road Cemetery, Grave 124 N 1. Her death certificate names her as Angelina STEEL, widow of Thomas Samuel STEEL, a merchant seaman. Her son, H. SYKES of 91 Harold Street, Grimsby, informed the registrar.
The death of Harry (Whizzy) SYKES, husband of Jessie, in 1943 was recorded on a gravestone in Scartho Road, Cemetery, Grimsby.
