      The 1891 census of Hut Encampment Barracks, Pembroke, Wales:
      Fred. Wm. WICKS, soldier, aged 18, private in Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, born at St. Mary's, Truro.

      He passed through the Military musicians' training centre at Knellor Hall in London. After passing out he was sent to Dublin. It was here that he met and married Annie TIGHE at the church of St. Michael, Kingstown, Ireland, on 25 November 1894.

      He is to be found in the 1901 Ireland census. When the Boer War began he was posted with his battalion to South Africa.
      He was invalided out two and a half years later, moving with his large family to Castle Street, Launceston in Cornwall. There he took up bookbinding and printing.

      His wife gave birth to a total of 14 children, only one of whom died in infancy.

      In World War 1 he was a drummer in the 5th Batallion Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.

      On 5 January 1931, after the death of his wife Annie, he married Jessie WOOF at St. Mary's Church, Launceston.

      He died in 1937.
