    • ROBERT MILLER (Circa 1914-

After the war Dorothy Alice EDGOOSE met Robert MILLER. They married on 31 July 1948 at Aldershot Register Office in the County of Southampton [sic]. Robert MILLER was a bachelor, 34 years old, a carpenter (journeyman) and son of George Robert MILLER, a Ship Plater. He lived at 40 Cranmore Lane, Aldershot. Dorothy Alice EDGOOSE formerly ENSOR lived at 31 Cranmore Lane, Aldershot.
She was 42 years old, "formerly the wife of Frank Arthur EDGOOSE from whom she obtained a divorce". Her father was described as Lewis ENSOR deceased, Petty Officer RN.
      Witnesses were B. E. BALCHIN and M. W. MAYNE.
      (GRO September Q 1948 Aldershot 6b 108)
      (Marriage Certificate)

Whilst her ex-husband had a very happy second marriage she was not so lucky. Bob became a teacher in a Government technical college in the Gold Coast (Ghana). The overseas life with its culture at that time of excessive drinking led to his attitude and behaviour changing. Jackie (as she had become known) found her marriage to Bob becoming, both in Ghana and later back in Aldershot, strained and finally totally unacceptable. They separated but she didn't want the trauma of yet another divorce. Her last years were spent alone in a pleasant flat in Manor Road, Aldershot where her son kept an eye on her. These were probably her happiest years. Nine words from her daughter sum her up: "She was a lady. I owe her a lot."

      NOTES & QUERIES:
If it is correct that Robert MILLER was the son of George Robert MILLER, ship plater, then he was possibly born in 1914:
