THOMAS SAMUEL STEEL(E) 1878-1901 or 1902 or 1903 or 1904 or 1905
The birth of a Thomas Samuel STEEL was registered in 1878.
(GRO June Q 1878 Wandsworth 1d 713)
According to the 1891 census returns for 4 Emily Terrace, Putney, London, Thomas S. STEEL was a 12 year old (i.e born 1878-1879) scholar, born in Putney, son of Samuel STEEL, an uphosterer's clerk. His maternal grandfather, Henry WOOD, a 69 year old Putney born widower and retired coal merchant, was living there too.
(RG12/453/23/7)
Thomas Samuel STEEL, a 23 year old mariner of Nene Parade, Wisbech, married Angelina CROSBY at Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, on 19 November 1900. He was the son of Samuel STEEL, clerk.
(GRO December Q 1900 Wisbeach 3b 1373)
The 1901 census returns for the Nene Inn, 19 Nene Parade, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire:
Thomas STEEL, head, aged 24, publican on own account, born at Putney, London;
Angelina STEEL, wife, aged 30, born at Middlesborough (sic);
Ralph SYKES, son, aged 8, born at Wisbech, Cambridgeshire;
Harry SYKES, son, aged 7, born at Wisbech;
Nora COTTRELL, daughter, aged 3, born at Wisbech;
Ivy COTTRELL, daughter, aged 2, born at Wisbech;
Nora CROSBY, visitor, aged 24, born at Wisbech;
Lucy DUFF, servant, aged 20, domestic servant, born at Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire. (RG13/1556/65/3)
Thomas Samuel STEEL(E) died at some time after the 1901 census and presumably before Angelina conceived Stanton Charles EDGOOSE's daughter Jessie in December 1904. The GRO indexes have been searched in vain from 1901 to 1904 inclusive. A mariner in 1900, he may have died at sea.
He was a witness to the marriage between Nora CROSBY and Thomas MITCHELL at Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire, on 8 April 1901.
NOTES & QUERIES:
When and Where did Thomas Samuel Steel die?
As his wife Angelina was a Wisbech publican, was his death reported in a Wisbech newspaper?
