• Biographies

  EDGOOSE, John (15??-16??) John EDGOOSE married Margarett ACASTER at Boston, Lincolnshire, on 23 January 1589. Anthony, son of John EDGOOSE, was baptised at Boston on 18 October 1589. The transcription of the Minutes of the Corporation of Boston Volume I 1545-1607 records the following property transactions: "Itm at the same assemblie yt is ordered that John EDGOOSE shall have grannted ffrom this Corporacon one cottage in his tenure for v li to be payde as followeth Viz xx s in hand & xl s yearely to have and to hold the sayd cottage to him and to his heires & the cottage to be bounde for the payment thereof." (page 583, 20 July 1599) "Itm wheras hertofore at an Assembly here holden 20 July Anno 40 Eliz a cottage was sould to John EDGOOSE for 5 li xx s wherof he payed and the other 4 li is yet dew and noe conveyans yet made by this house Now the said EDGOOSE at this Assembly hath desired that the same conveyans of the said house might be made unto one Hugh HAINTON therfore it is agreed that the said Hugh HAINTON shall have the same house and yarde therunto adioyninge conveyed unto hime reserving yearly xij d and payinge the 4 li yet unpayed to this Corporacon uppon the sealeing of the conveyans from this house." (page 735, September 1606) "Itm at this Assembly there is sealed and delivered unto Henry (sic) HAINTON a deed of ffeoffment of a howse and a garden and yarde in Boston one the west side of the water which was heretofore sould to John EDGOOSE and was now conveyed at his Request unto the said HAINTON and the 4 li Resedew of the price into the Treasury ther is xij d yearly reserved upon this deed." (page 736, September/October 1606) "Itm at this Assembly there is brought in by the Town Clarke the Counterpaine of the deed of ffeoffment, sealed by Hugh HAINTON to this howse wherby they conveyed a howse hertofore sould by this Corporacon unto John EDGOOSE and now conveyed at EDGOOSEs request to the said HAINTON by this Corporacon (noe conveyans beinge thereof hertofore made by this howse to the said EDGOOSE." (page 738, September/October 1606) Margarett EDGOOSE was buried at Boston on 12 August 1610. NOTES & QUERIES: 1) Who were his parents? 2) When and where was he buried? 3) The Index to Volume 1 of Lincoln Record Society's The Parish Registers of Boston 1557-1599 lists a John EDGOOSE on page 133 which covers burials for the period 27 September 1590 to 28 February 1590-91.
