      (GRO June Q 1913 Harley W. 2c 222)

His death was reported in Sheldrake's Aldershot Military Gazette on 11 and 18 April 1913:
      "Death of Mr. A. TURNER
After a protracted period of illness the death of Mr. Arthur TURNER, of Lynchford Road, has to be recorded. The deceased gentleman, who has resided in Farnborough for many years, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, and by his death Farnborough has lost one of its earliest inhabitants and traders. To many he will be especially remembered as the father of the well known football player, Archie TURNER, and in his early days when football had been but little thought of, or encouragraged as a popular pastime, he himself had made a name as a bowler in the cricket field. There are those in Farnborough who today can recall his service in this direction, and Mr. J. YEOMAN tells of a time when his own father declared that the d deceased was the best underhand trundler he had ever stood to a wicket against. To the early Aldershot school of cricketers his prowess in the field was also well known. Mr. TURNER was, it is interesting to recall, apprenticed to Mr. E. FIFINCHCH, the head of the firm of Messrs. Finch and Sons, of Aldershot, and afterwards commenced business in the undertaking line in Aldershot with the late Mr. HUGHES, the builder. But like others who have endeavoured to found a business of this kind in the town, the returns did not warrant a continuance of the business, and Mr. TURNER parted with Mr. HUGHES, and eventually he started at Farnborough in connection with a general ironmonger's establishment. The death of his wife some few years ago came as a great shock to the deceased, and from that blow he had never really recovered. Many of our Farnborough readers will learn with feelings of regret of the passing of this old resident, concerning whom many an interesting story might be told."

      "Funeral of Mr. A. TURNER
The funeral of the late Mr. Arthur TURNER, whose death at the age of 62 years was recorded in our last issue, took place on Friday afternoon, the service at St. Mark's Church being conducted by the Vicar (the Rev.
