She was described as a spinster of 603 Glen Terrace, Manchester Road, Poplar. Witnesses were Harriet WOOD and Henry HAYWARD. (GRO March Q 1893 Poplar 1c 724) From the 1900 US Federal Census of Eight Street, San Francisco City, California: Charles HANSEN was 42 years old, was born in Denmark in March 1858, and arrived in the USA in 1885. He worked as a fruit dealer and lived in a rented house. His wife of eight years, Kerenhappuck HANSEN, was 37 years old, was born in England in April 1863, and arrived in the USA in 1892 (sic). She was said to have been eight years in the USA. She had no children. Her nephew Frederick EDGOOSE said that she married twice and that she went to America and returned just too late for her brother's funeral in November 1902 (visit by Frederick EDGOOSE to West Close, Fernhurst, 1 March 1968). No trace has been ffound on the Ellis Island website (www.ellisislandrecords.org) of a Kerenhappuck HANSEN between 1893 and 1905. However, Carrie HANSEN, a 30 year old Englishwoman, sailed from Southampton on the Berlin, arriving at New York on 3 July 1893. Charles HANSEN was not with her, but as a merchant seaman he may have chosen to work his passage rather than pay for a ticket. Carrie and Charles HANSEN, aged 40 and 45 respectively, described as of US/Scandinavian ethnicity residing in London returned to New York from Southampton on the Philadelphia, arriving on 28 November 1903. There is, of course, no proof that these passengers were Kerenhappuck and Charles HANSEN, but it seems a possibility - Carrie's age in 1893 and 1903 matches Kerenhappuck's and her nephew Frederick EDGOOSE is thought to have referred to her as Carrie. His advertisement for Mevan Salve appeared in the May 1904 issue of Human Nature, Volome XV, page 15. His address was 484 North, Third Street, Philadelphia. See photocopy on edgoose.one-name.net. On 29 August 1905 Charles Sophus Thorwald HANSEN of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, registered the patent of a salve which he called Mevan Salve. "MEVAN is a safe cure for Skin Diseases and the worst and most delicate of old sores and wounds, also for insect stings. Used for both Man and Beast. This salve was discovered and has been used for over one hundred years in Europe, until lately in a private way, and no sore or wound has been found there that it did not permanently cure. It has cured diseases in London where the limbs have dropped off, and has in these cases surprised professors who have been unable to do them any good at all. There is no sore or wound of whatsoever nature it might be that it should not be tried.If you suffer with Piles give it a trial, if you have been operated upon for such.
