The Mary EDGOOSE who married William AKERILL at Weston St. Mary, Lincolnshire, on 10 May 1745 is thought to have been the daughter of the John and Sarah EDGOOSE who lived at Weston St. Mary from 1733 until their deaths in 1749.

The ancestry of this Mary EDGOOSE is uncertain. There are four possibilities:
1) Was she a hitherto unknown daughter of the John and Sarah EDGOOSE of Weston St. Mary, Lincolnshire? John EDGOOSE had married Sarah BENNET at Gosberton on 2 April 1723 and was living at Weston St. Mary from 1733 until his death in 1749.

2) Was she the daughter of John and Mary (sic) EDGOOSE who was baptised at Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, on 26 February 1715/16? (NB This Mary EDGOOSE is believed to be synonymous with the Elizabeth EDGOOSE in (3) below.)

3) Was she the daughter of John and Elizabeth (sic) EDGOOSE who married at Kirton-in-Holland, Lincolnshire, on 17 April 1711. In his will made on 6 April 1720 Thomas EDGOOSE of Pinchbeck, husbandman, refers to John, Mary, and Rachell EDGOOSE, the children of his brother John EDGOOSE. His brother John EDGOOSE was living and, of the children, John was under 21 and Mary and Rachell were under 17.

No trace of the family has been found in the Tasmanian censuses for 1842, 1843, 1851 and 1857 but in early 1848 they were living at Stephenson Farm, Launceston, with three unnamed additions to the family. The family consisted of 7 persons: one adult male and one adult female aged between 21 and 45, and 5 males and 1 female aged between 2 and 7 years. Three of the male children were stated to have been born in the colony. Their religion was Church of England.
